Spending with China's digital yuan surpassed 100 billion yuan as of the end of August, the central bank said on Wednesday, as the country continues its roll-out of a central bank digital currency.

The spending involved 360 million transactions in pilot areas in 15 provinces and municipalities, the People's Bank of China (PBOC) said, adding that more than 5.6 million merchants could now accept payments with the digital currency.

Pilot regions offered nearly 30 rounds of e-CNY subsidies in 2022 to stimulate consumption, fight the pandemic and promote low-carbon transport.

The central bank also took part in the cross-border multiple Central Bank Digital Currency (mCBDC) Bridge trial developed by the Bank of International Settlements, which has successfully completed its first real-trade pilot test based on four national or regional central bank digital currencies from August 15 to September 23. It also conducted tests to connect with Hong Kong's local digital payment system.

China is at the fore of a global race to develop central bank digital currencies, and has carried out a series of studies since 2014. The e-CNY has so far been used mainly for domestic retail payments, but will be promoted for use in corporate and personal business, as well as in finance, taxation, and government affairs, the central bank said.

It also vowed to connect the e-CNY system with the traditional digital payment system, dominated by Alibaba Group's Alipay and Tencent Holding's WeChat Pay, to make it more convenient for consumers and merchants.

While promoting the pilot RD and application of the digital yuan, the central bank has strengthened the protection of personal information, while preventing crime risks.

中国人民银行数字货币研究所12日发布的数据显示，数字人民币在批发零售、餐饮文旅、教育医疗、公共服务等领域已形成一大批涵盖线上线下、可复制可推广的应用模式。截至8月31日，15个省（市）的试点地区累计交易笔数3.6亿笔、金额1000.4亿元，支持数字人民币的商户门店数量超过560万个。

截至目前，人民银行先后选择15个省（市）的部分地区开展数字人民币试点，并综合评估确定了10家指定运营机构。数字人民币双层运营架构等顶层设计已通过全方位测试，其可行性和可靠性得到有效验证。

在产品供给方面，通过“数字人民币”APP，便捷提供兑换、支付、钱包管理等服务，支持线上线下全场景数字人民币应用。推出多种形态的硬件钱包，探索软硬融合的产品能力，并针对“无网”“无电”等极端场景，研发相应的功能。发挥数字人民币高效率、低成本等优势，推出差异化对公支付结算方案，服务实体经济发展。

作为数字形式的法定货币，数字人民币在建立支撑智能合约应用的生态方面有信任优势、互通优势和后发优势，有利于提升交易透明度和资金管理的智能化水平，降低结算和合规成本。目前，数字人民币智能合约已经在政府补贴、零售营销、预付资金管理等领域成功应用。

不久前，央行数研所参与的多边央行数字货币桥平台首次成功完成基于4个地区央行数字货币的真实交易试点测试，在国际交流合作方面迈出重要一步。一是积极参与国际清算银行倡导的多边央行数字货币桥项目，二是启动内地与香港跨境支付技术测试，探索数字人民币系统与香港本地“转数快”快速支付系统的互联互通。

央行数研所表示，下一步，将继续推动数字人民币业务持续健康发展。进一步完善数字人民币相关法律法规和行业配套政策，夯实数字人民币法治基础，巩固数字人民币法偿性地位。遵循“小额匿名、大额依法可溯”的原则，充分保障公众合理的个人信息保护需求；支持为中小微企业提供便利化的资金管理、薪资发放、进销存等服务；实现数字人民币体系与传统电子支付工具的互联互通，让消费者可以“一码通扫”。

Shanghai has issued a plan to accelerate the development of transformative industries including high-end manufacturing, energy, and healthcare. The related output value should reach about 500 billion yuan. By 2030, Shanghai will build five future industry clusters and about 15 future industry pilot areas, develop about 100 core components, launch about 100 high-end products, and form about 100 Chinese industry standards, according to the document. 上海打造未来产业集群：10月12日消息，上海市人民政府近日印发《上海打造未来产业创新高地 发展壮大未来产业集群行动方案》，目标到到2030年，在未来健康、未来智能、未来能源、未来空间、未来材料等领域涌现一批具有世界影响力的硬核成果、创新企业和领军人才，未来产业产值达到5000亿元左右。根据《行动方案》，到2030年，打造5个未来产业集群，建设15个左右未来产业先导区，攻关100个左右核心部件，推出100件左右高端产品，形成100项左右中国标准，促进产业集聚引领发展。

The Harbin-Tieli phase of China's northernmost high-speed railway operating between Harbin and Yichun in northeastern Heilongjiang Province has formally begun construction on Wednesday. Spanning a total length of 318 kilometres with a designed speed of 250 kilometres per hour, which is scheduled to be completed in five years, the Harbin-Yichun high-speed railway is an extension of the Beijing-Harbin Railway and Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Railway channels. 哈伊高铁全线开工：10月12日，哈尔滨至伊春高铁（哈伊高铁）哈尔滨至铁力段首个工点进场施工，标志着我国在建最北端高铁哈伊高铁全线开工建设。哈伊高铁是我国“八纵八横”高铁网京哈—京港澳通道的延长线，起自黑龙江省哈尔滨市，途经绥化市，终至伊春市，正线全长318公里，设计时速250公里，建设工期5年。

China’s individual industrial and commercial households reached 109 million by the end of August, 2.7 times that of 2012, data released by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) showed on Thursday, which grew with an average annual rate of 10.9 percent. The number of individual businesses related to “New Economy increased 12.7 percent in the past decade to reach 32.2 million as of August 31. 十年来个体工商户年均增10.9%：市场监管总局13日发布数据显示，截至2022年8月底，全国登记在册个体工商户已达1.09亿户，是2012年的2.7倍，十年来年均增长10.9%。与1980年改革开放之初相比，当时我国个体工商户数量不到1万户，占市场主体比重不足1%。截至今年8月底，“四新经济”个体工商户共计3222.1万户，占登记在册个体工商户总量的29.4%，较2012年提升了12.7个百分点。

Chinese gold miner Zijin Mining Group is paying 3.9 billion yuan for a 30 percent stake in the owner of China’s biggest gold mine. Zijin will become the second-biggest shareholder in Shandong Ruiyin Mining Industry after the purchase, the Fujian province-based company said Wednesday. The Haiyu Gold Mine is the biggest single gold mine to be discovered in China in recent years, with 562 tons in gold reserves. 紫金矿业40亿入股国内最大单体金矿：10月12日晚间，福建省最大贵金属企业紫金矿业集团股份有限公司公告称，与山东博文矿业有限公司签署《股权转让协议》，公司出资人民币39.845亿元，收购博文矿业持有的瑞银矿业的30%股权。海域金矿位于山东省莱州市北部，是中国最大的单体金矿。

Cash-strapped Chinese developer Shimao Group said it plans to sell a 45 percent stake in a mixed-use development project in Nanjing for 1.8 billion yuan to replay debts and facilitate the resumption of construction. Shimao will sell its stake in the project to China Cinda Asset Management and Minmetals International Trust at a loss of 145 million yuan, the Hong Kong-based firm announced late yesterday. 世茂17.5亿出售南京项目：世茂集团10月12日公告称，拟出售南京市栖霞区一个综合体项目45%的股权，同时转让销售债权权利，买方为中国信达与五矿信托，总代价为17.5亿元。世茂预计，参考项目公司在2022年8月31日的账面值，该次变现出售亏损约1.45亿元。

Yahua Industrial Group has withdrawn its plan to invest in Canada's Ultra Lithium, due to changes in the international environment which could have an impact on mining, resulting in the slower development of mines, the Chinese lithium supplier said Wednesday. Mining has not yet started at the projects, Yahua Industrial said, and it is not liable to pay compensation and other liabilities. The firm has sufficient supply of lithium resources from existing channels, it added. 雅化终止超锂项目投资：10月12日，雅化集团宣布终止与加拿大超锂公司的股权认购及矿业权投资事项。公告称，根据对当前国际环境的判断，预计可能会对矿山开发带来较大影响，导致矿山开发的周期较长，终止全资子公司雅化国际与加拿大超锂公司的股权认购及矿业权投资事项。本次终止投资不会对公司正常生产经营与未来发展产生重大影响。雅化称目前公司取得的锂资源供应渠道能完全满足锂盐生产需要。

ByteDance offered to buy back shares from employees at a price of $155 per restricted stock unit on Wednesday, according to an internal memo. The program, beginning immediately, marks the company’s second round of employee share buybacks in 2022, exceeding previously offered prices. 字节以每股155美元回购员工期权：10月12日媒体报道，字节跳动已开启新一轮员工期权回购，价格为每股155美元。这一价格相比上一轮回购价格上涨约9%，也与公司最新的员工期权授予价格一致。

China Coal Energy, the country’s second-largest listed coal company, expects to have increased its net profit by as much as 71 percent in the first three quarters due to high coal prices. From January to September, net profit may have jumped by 55 percent to 71 percent to a point between 18.4 billion and 20.3 billion yuan from a year earlier, the Beijing-based firm said Wednesday. 中煤能源前三季净利预计增七成：中煤能源10月12日发布2022年前三季度业绩预告，2022年前三季度预计实现净利润183.6亿-202.9亿元，同比增长54.9%至71.1%。

China Development Bank said Thursday it has issued 406.9 billion yuan of loans in the energy sector between January and September to support clean energy development, energy supply guarantee, and clean and efficient coal use. The Agricultural Development Bank of China, a rural policy bank, has provided 245.9 billion yuan in a fund to support infrastructure projects. The fund, established on July 20, has been funnelled to 1,677 projects with a total investment of 3 trillion yuan, according to the bank on Thursday. 2459亿元农发基础设施基金投放完成：中国农业发展银行13日消息，截至10月12日，农发基础设施基金完成全部2459亿元政策性开发性金融工具投放任务。基金全部用于支持国家明确的市政和产业园区基础设施、交通基础设施、农业农村基础设施、能源基础设施、城乡冷链和重大物流基础设施等八个领域。

Guotai Junan Securities has been given the green light to take 51 percent stake in Hua An Fund Management, making it the first Chinese securities firm to operate two licensed public fund managers. Guotai Junan is purchasing an 8 percent stake in Hua An from Shanghai Industrial Investment for $1 billion, the leading Chinese brokerage said Tuesday. 国泰君安拿下华安控股权：10月11日晚间，国泰君安披露对华安基金的增持进展，证监会已经核准上海国际集团成为华安基金实际控制人，对国泰君安受让华安基金1200万元出资（占注册资本比例8%）无异议。按照计划，国泰君安将以不超过10.12亿元价格受让华安基金8%股权，交易完成后，公司将持有华安基金51%股权，达到控股目的，成为“公募新规”后业内首家“一控一牌”券商，即控股一家公募基金管理公司且资管子公司具有公募基金管理业务资格。

Chinese shares traded in a tight range on Thursday while Hong Kong shares extended losses, as risk-off sentiment prevailed ahead of US inflation data. The benchmark Shanghai Composite slid 0.3 percent and the Shenzhen Component ended down 0.19 percent. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng fell 1.87 percent, while the TECH index dropped 3.42 percent. A股窄幅震荡港股跌幅扩大：周四A股三大指数全天小幅震荡，涨跌互现。截至收盘，沪指跌0.3%，深成指跌0.19%，创业板指涨0.32%。港股跌幅进一步扩大，恒生指数收跌1.87%%，恒生科技指数收跌3.42%。
